SPECIAL CORRESPONDENTOn February 26, in the Hall of Charents of the Yerevan State University the 50th anniversary of the Artsakh war participant, graduate of the Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Philology of YSU, Ph.D. student Norayr Marutyan was celebrated.

It is already 23 years that he is no longer with us. In the battlefield, he served two missions – fought and wrote about them in the weekly “Azatamart”. He was the special correspondent for this newspaper in Artsakh.

Laconic, modest, multilaterally developed, he has always been in the forefront, remember comrades. He said: “I will not forgive myself if our village is freed, and I will not enter first into the village.”

On the YSU Faculty of Journalism it has become a tradition to remember the hero, there is an auditorium named after him. Dean of the Faculty Nagash Martirosyan believes that “Norayr Marutyan will be on the faculty as long as the Alma Mater exists. About him always we must speak in the present tense. His life and the lives of his comrades is a lesson of patriotism and the formula of life.”

Each year, the fund “Journalists – in memory of the fighter for the liberation” after Norayr Marutyan announces competition. This year’s results will be finalized in May. University students will write military-patriotic essays, reports, etc. The best will be awarded cash prizes.
