WORD ABOUT THE FORGOTTEN HEROES

These days the book of writer and journalist Sergey Vardanyan “Bloody seed” in Russian was released. The book talks about the participation of the Armenians of Abkhazia and Krasnodar in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Particular attention is paid to the exploits of 13 Armenians – Heroes of the Soviet Union.

In the summer of 1942 the Germans took Krasnodar, Maykop, and Armavir. There were a lot of Armenian partisans. They took revenge for their parents, brothers and sisters who became victims of the Armenian Genocide in 1915 with the permission of Germany. From the Armenian village Haykadzor 127 people participated in the war, from Sergeyev Pole – 154, 76 of them were killed, among them – five sons of Hovhannes Yeremyan. And during the liberation of the village of Shahumyan of Krasnodar region 700 Armenians were killed.

Hero of the Soviet Union, 25-year-old pilot, Lieutenant Martiros Nagulyan in 9 months destroyed 6 enemy tanks, 150 cars and 100 wagons full of ammunition, 3 steam locomotives, 18 railway wagons, 25 anti-aircraft missile batteries, 2 cargo ships, 2 fighter-planes, 1000 fascists. The hero died on April 6, 1945 near the Polish village Drevnitsa.

In the chapter “The pages of history,” the author briefly introduces, when and where came the Armenians to the Krasnodar region. Since there are many Hamshen Armenians, it is also explained – who they are.

The survivors of the Genocide of Armenians from Hamshen migrated to the Krasnodar region and Abkhazia. In 20 years in Abkhazia, they founded 128 Armenian schools, where studied more than 12 thousand students, and today here there are more than 40 thousand Armenians and there are only 31 Armenian schools with 2000 students. And in the Krasnodar region, where Armenians are about 282 thousand, there is no Armenian school, meanwhile, after the Second World War, in 1950 there operated 140 schools.
