BOOK ABOUT THE HEROES OF OUR DAY

On November 27, in the meeting room of the Scientific Council of Yerevan State University a presentation of the book “The Armenian-Azerbaijani war and the heroes of our day” (author: Edgar Elbakyan, editor: Alvina Aghababyan) was held.

The book was created in collaboration with Research center “Armses” NGO and the Research Laboratory for Strategic Studies of Yerevan State University within the framework provided by the grant program to NGO-s by the administration of the President of Armenia and the announced competition of the Youth Foundation of Armenia.

The book consists of three parts. In the first part – a brief outline of the Armenian-Azerbaijani war of 1988-1994, in the second part – the analysis of the Armenian-Azerbaijani war period, the reasons for the violation of ceasefire by the enemy and objectives pursued, as well as counter-measures of the Armenian side are presented.

And the third part of the book is devoted to the memory of 10 soldiers who died heroically in 2014-2015 in the fight against the enemy. They are – Armen Hovhannisyan, Azat Asoyan Ararat Khanoyan, Zorik Gevorgyan, Sargis Movsisyan, Vardan Mkrtchyan, Arshak Harutyunyan, Edward Hayrapetyan, Hakob Khachatryan, Samvel Hakobyan. Individual essays present the life and exploits of these guys.

– In the matter of the choice of the characters as a guide, we have chosen the fact of conscious entry into the military operations against the enemy, – explains author Edgar Elbakyan.

Book editor Alvina Aghababyan continues: “Our goal is not to represent the death of these guys as a tragedy, but to present their life and duty as heroism and feat.”

The presentation was attended by parents, relatives, comrades of these hero guys, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and students.

Speeches were made by the former commander of the military unit, Colonel E.Asiryan, under whose command Armen Hovhannisyan, Zorik Gevorgyan, Sargis Movsisyan served; former commander of the regiment “Deers”, who received a medal “For courage” Lieutenant Sarkis Gabrielyan, who on March 19, 2015 was with Arshak Harutyunyan, Edward Hayrapetyan, Samvel Khachatryan and Hakob Hakobyan and participated in the battle of Gyulistan.

There were very touching speeches of mothers of dead soldiers. They noted that such a book for them is small consolation, but for the younger generation is a guide for decent life and service.
