WAR AND VICTORY OF OUR FATHERS

In my childhood years at home the most prohibited item for the children was the diary of my father of the war years. When my brother was 18 years old, he asked my father: “What did you want when you were 18?” He replied: “I was lying wounded in the mud and dreamed of a drink of cold water.”

Father is not with us for 14 years. His diary is in my hands. His notes father started from July 22, 1945 in Czechoslovakia, in the village of Chernokovitsa near Prague. Here is a brief history of his military way.

18-year-old Samvel Abelovich Ivanyan was recruited from Zangezur on 2 October, 1943, his father was already at the front since the beginning of 1942. On December 25, from the reserve regiment of Dilijan he was included in artillery division, on February 12 he was in Zaporozhye and on March 7 for the first time he was wounded. Minesweeper Ivanyan from 12-16 March, 1945 participated in the liberation of the Polish city of Rybnik, from May 1-4 was on 45km from Berlin and heard the news of the victory in Dresden.

He could not even imagine that after 30 years will be the honorary citizen of Rybnik.

My father loved and appreciated beauty. Sometimes we asked him: “Why did you become a doctor? You’re a real man of literature.” To which he replied: “Because of my so many injuries I had to be a regular patient of physicians. So it was the right thing to be a doctor.”

Our favorite holiday – May 9, we celebrated as the second birthday of my father. And I remember how we felt ashamed, when in the first years of independence for several years this holiday – Victory Day was canceled! Father was puzzled with the argument that it was not our national war and “to no purpose we participated in it.” Thank God, they understood and restored the holiday.

My father has many awards, among them – the Order “Red Star”, the medal “For the Victory over Germany”.

But the greatest reward is the Victory!

And while live my peers whose fathers have matured under the whistle of shells, the Great Patriotic will be perceived as a private pain.

And respecting your father, you will never forget his war and its Victory!

LIA IVANYAN
