BUZLUKH – VICTORY WITH THE SCENT OF WILD MINT

Loak at this photo. National hero Monteh Melkonyan sleeps after Buzlukh victory. What thoughts come, looking at this photograph after 23 years?

Buzlukh victory ended infinite retreat of the Armenians, the retreat, which began many centuries ago, with the war of Vardanants, maybe even earlier.

Buzlukh battle took place on September 14, 1991, it lasted 7 hours and 10 minutes, just a moment in the multi-millennial history of our people.

On the role of Buzlukh victory one of our glorious heroes – Monteh Melkonian said: “So, in the Armenian modern history for the first time the Armenians were able to win a territory”.

The photo was made by French journalist Miriam Gomme. In her note-book she wrote that day: “He constantly examines maps and keeps looking at the clock. He sleeps on the ground in a sleeping bag, even if there is a bed. As soon as he wakes up, he turns on the radio – BBC, every morning, even in the trench, he does not say a word until he washes and has breakfast”.

Miriam Gomme knew him from France, she knew very well the history of his family. The first time they met in the House of Justice of France. And now, after 3 years of their last meeting, the journalist came to meet Monteh in Armenia and to see him in a battlefield.

That morning of the day of liberation of Buzlukh, Miriam made the snap of sleeping Monteh and wrote an inscription for it – “Funny Boy”.
