On January 29 Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan hosted newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Armenia, His Excellency Mr. Giovanni Ricciulli and newly appointed Military Attache, Major-General Giovanni Armentani.

The Defenсe Minister congratulated the Ambassador and the Military Attache on the occasion of their assignments and expressed hope that the bilateral cooperation between the countries will register new achievement in the nearest future. Upon the United Nations approval it is expected to deploy one platoon of Armenian peacekeepers under the Italian command in Lebanon as a part of UNIFIL peacekeeping mission. The arrangement of this joint mission’s details is in the final stage.

On its part the Italian side recognized the professional readiness and experience of Armenian peacekeepers looking forward to the upcoming mission which will boost other areas of bilateral cooperation.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
